Fund to help group upgrade local hall
Published: Tuesday 3 December 2024
Funding from the Can Do Community Challenge Fund is to help a local charity upgrade a community hall.
Low Waters Community Group received £10,000 from the fund, which will go towards completing major works at Low Waters Hall.
The group are responsible for the management and maintenance of the hall, located in Hamilton. They aim to upgrade, maintain and repair the facility as part of a Community Asset Transfer.
The money from the fund will primarily be used to install and renovate the bathrooms in the hall, with some funding set aside for running costs and rental costs.
Gary Ward from Low Waters Community Group said: “With this funding, we have been able to ensure this facility will be accessible, safe and inclusive for all community groups, organisations and local people who need a space to deliver vital services.”
Chair of the council’s Finance and Corporate Resources Committee, Councillor Lesley McDonald, said: “It’s great news that the Can Do Community Challenge Fund will help towards the groups long-term goal of enabling Low Waters Hall to remain open to the community.”
The fund was introduced to help communities shine and demonstrate their "Can Do" spirit.
Community organisations could apply to the council for grants of up to £10,000 to assist with revenue, capital funding, or a combination of both. Access to the fund has now closed.
